ABOUT MATERIAL MATTERS
Material Matters, Inc. was formed in 1997 in the State of Pennsylvania by Barbara Petroff and was certified in 1998 by the City of Philadelphia as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE). In 1998, Dr. Robin Brandt and Trudy Johnston joined as partners of the firm. The company was formed to conduct professional consulting services in the area of biosolids and residuals.

Initially we focused primarily on professional services related to land application of biosolids and residuals in Pennsylvania. In the last five years, we have expanded to serve not only municipalities but also commercial and industrial clients and have diversified our expertise and offerings into the areas of odor management, Class A processes, data management, phosphorus management, and Environmental Management Systems (EMS).

Additionally, Material Matters brought to the market place in 2004 Material ManagerTM, a relational database management application. This program assists wastewater treatment facilities with managing, record-keeping, and reporting to help assure their biosolids programs comply with state and federal regulations.

Our projects include:

  • Developing biosolids and residuals programs
  • Managing components of re-use programs
  • Qualifying land application recycling sites
  • Acquiring a broad range of federal and state regulatory approvals related to residuals management
  • Providing program operation consultation
  • Offering Environmental Management System consulting and auditing
  • Conducting pilot or demonstration studies
  • Performing composting, vermiculture, and Class A feasibility studies

These assignments involve effective interaction and coordination with various regulatory agencies, municipalities, industries, and the agricultural community.
